Mećava (surname)
Mećava (Serbian Cyrillic: Мећава) is a Serbian surname that means "snowstorm" or "blizzard." It comes from Serbo-Croatian and is mainly found in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, especially in the Banovina and Bosanska Krajina regions. Most bearers are Eastern Orthodox Serbs, with some Croats also having the surname. Among Orthodox families, the traditional slava (patron saint day) is Saint George (Đurđevdan). The surname is borne by several people.
