Martha Heredia
Martha Heredia, nicknamed La Baby, is a Dominican singer who won Latin American Idol in its fourth season. She was born in February 1991 in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. Her parents are Felipe Heredia and Maritza Rivas. She began singing and writing songs at age 15 and formed a group called Una Vía with her brother, mixing hip hop, reggaeton, and other urban styles.
She later worked in the United States, where she wrote her own songs. At 18, she flew to San José, Costa Rica to audition for Latin American Idol, and she also took part in a workshop in Argentina. She made it to the final and, on December 10, 2009, won the competition after receiving more than half of the votes. She performed with Franco de Vita during the finale.
Her first single, Música, came out in January 2010, and she was set to record a studio album with Sony BMG. In 2013 she was arrested while trying to board a plane to the United States on heroin smuggling charges. She was convicted in 2014 and sentenced to seven years in prison, receiving a partial release in 2018. Since then, details about her music career have been limited.
