Tyburn Brook

Tyburn Brook was a small stream in London, feeding the West Bourne (Westbourne). It mostly flowed through Hyde Park for a few hundred metres toward the south-west. Over time its drainage area was lost as water ran into gravelly topsoil and into early Victorian sewers that mixed foul water with surface water, so its source now lies underground and feeds a mix of waters. The Serpentine lake, which used to be fed mainly by the Westbourne, is now supplied by boreholes. Tyburn Brook should not be confused with the much longer River Tyburn; the two were often mixed up until the early 19th century, as they lay far to the west of the City of London’s walls. The brook is mentioned by William Blake in Jerusalem. Its location is Hyde Park, London.
