Calling You Home
Calling You Home is a song by American electronic music producer Jeff Montalvo, known as Seven Lions, featuring vocals by Runn. It was released on February 16, 2018 through Montalvo’s own label, Ophelia, marking the label’s debut release. The track introduced Ophelia as a home base for Montalvo’s music, with plans for collaborations and distinctive artwork.
In interviews around the launch, Montalvo described Ophelia as a smaller, flexible home for his projects, capable of handling the same tasks as larger labels but with a smaller team. On the release day, the song was made available on digital stores and streaming services worldwide.
Before the release, Calling You Home had appeared as a rarely played ID in Montalvo’s live sets. The same announcement also introduced Chronicles, an experimental live show planned for May 12, 2018 at WaMu Theatre in Seattle, featuring various artists alongside Montalvo.
An extended play of Calling You Home followed on March 14, 2018, featuring three remixes by Direct and Oliver Smith. Critics praised the release: Direct’s remix adds a downtempo, dreamy vibe; Oliver Smith’s remix brings a faster, trance-inspired mood with darker tones before lifting again. The track earned positive reviews for its mystical feel, strong vocals, and addictive drops.
Overall, Calling You Home was well received, with many critics noting that it showcases Seven Lions’s signature blend of ethereal vocals, melodic elements, and impactful dubstep drops.
