Support for SOPA and PIPA came from many groups that rely on copyright, including the Motion Picture Association of America, the Recording Industry Association of America, Macmillan Publishers, Viacom, and other entertainment and publishing organizations.

On December 22, 2011, Rep. Lamar Smith released an official list showing 142 organizations supporting SOPA. The list was updated as other groups published their own lists, and by the morning of December 29, 2011, 18 names had been removed, leaving 124 supporters on the list.

The public attention to this list led to backlash for several supporters. GoDaddy.com, a major domain registrar, faced a boycott and lost a large number of domains, prompting it to say it no longer supports SOPA and later that it opposes SOPA.

Different versions of the lists exist, showing supporters and those removed; totals can vary by version. For the full current list, visit sopastrike.com/on-strike/.
