Nothopegia travancorica is a small tree in the cashew family. It grows up to about 5 meters tall. The leaves are simple, arranged alternately in a spiral. The leaf stalk (petiole) is 0.5–1.5 cm long and is slightly hairy and grooved. The leaf blade is 7–22 cm long and 2–5 cm wide, oval to elongated in shape with a long pointed tip and a sharp base. The edges are wavy and may have tiny hairs. The blade has a papery feel and a bluish-white underside. The main vein runs flat or slightly raised; there are 20–30 noticeable side veins that run roughly parallel, with smaller veins connecting them.

Flowers form in short clusters (racemes) about 1 cm long, coming from the leaf axils. They are white, and the plant has both male and female flowers. The fruit is a small, ribbed, smooth drupe about 0.5 cm across, containing a single seed.
