Liz Larin
Liz Larin is an American musician, composer, and record producer from Detroit. A self-taught guitarist and pianist, she began teaching guitar at 15 and started playing jam sessions around Detroit. She left home at 16 to pursue music, moving to Los Angeles where she formed a group with Michael King. The band, first called Press and then Rebel Heels, signed with Atlantic Records in 1987. After one album, Larin continued as a solo artist with Atlantic, releasing her debut album Test Your Faith in 1993 (reissued in Europe in 2014).
Back in Detroit, she started Bona Dea Music, an independent label, along with Digital Opts & Sound Design and ACM Creative Digital, which focus on music production, film scoring, and digital media. Her independent albums include Merry Wicked (1999), The Story of O-Miz (2002), and Wake Up, Start Dreaming (2006). The Story of O-Miz won the Detroit Music Award for Outstanding CD of the Year in 2005. She released the self-produced Hurricane in 2014, showcasing her production and multi-instrumental skills.
In 2018 she explored electronic music, releasing the electro-pop EP Good Human and an instrumental meditation project called Chakra Hymns – The Arcello Series. In 2021 she issued Arcello Focus – Magia and Hope Bridge – Ascending, featuring Darlene Drew on world flutes. Larin now composes for film and television and divides her time among Detroit, Montreal, and New Orleans. She releases music under several names, including Liz Larin, Stella 13, LusterKraft, Arcello Focus, and Hope Bridge. She has won multiple Detroit Music Awards, including Outstanding Electronic/Dance Recording for “The Expedition” in 2021.
