2016 Iowa elections
The 2016 Iowa elections were held on November 8, 2016. Voters elected one U.S. Senate seat, all four Iowa seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, half of the Iowa State Senate, and all 100 members of the Iowa House of Representatives. Primary elections were held on June 7, 2016. The Republican Party gained big wins, expanding its majority in the Iowa House and taking control of the State Senate, giving Iowa a Republican trifecta for the first time since 1996. Incumbent Republican Senator Chuck Grassley sought a seventh term and won reelection, defeating Democrat Patty Judge and several third-party candidates with about 60% of the vote. All four Iowa U.S. House seats were up in November, but party control of those seats did not change. The 25 even-numbered State Senate seats were up, and all 100 State House seats were up.
