List of Category A listed buildings in Inverclyde

This is about Category A listed buildings in the Inverclyde council area in west-central Scotland. A listed building is officially recognised as having special architectural or historic interest. Category A buildings are of national or international importance, or are very well-preserved examples of a period, style, or building type.

Inverclyde has 25 Category A listed buildings. Listing of buildings in Scotland began under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1947, and today is governed by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997. Historic Scotland, a Scottish Government agency, is responsible for listing. Once a building is listed, any alterations are tightly controlled and you must obtain listed building consent from the local council before making changes.

There are about 47,400 listed buildings in Scotland, of which around 3,800 (about 8%) are Category A.

Inverclyde covers about 160 square kilometres (62 square miles) and has around 79,800 residents.

Scheduled monuments are protected in a similar way but are not categorized as listed buildings. They are nationally important sites protected by the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, and changes require consent from Historic Scotland. These can include sites like burial mounds, castles, and monasteries.
