Komi cuisine comes from the Komi Republic and the Komi people, using many local foods. The north and south of their homeland have different eating patterns: in the north, where reindeer herding and hunting are common, meat is eaten daily; in the south, which is more agricultural, meat is eaten less and fish is eaten more. Komi women bake a fish pie called черинянь for festive occasions. The Fish Pie Festival (Черинянь гаж) is held every year on the last Sunday of June in the village of Byzovaya, Pechora District.
