Gerald Ugle
Gerald Ugle (born 31 January 1993) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the AFL for the Greater Western Sydney Giants and in the WAFL for Perth and Peel Thunder, with later playing for Mines Rovers in 2021. He grew up in Western Australia, attended Guildford Grammar School on an Indigenous scholarship, and captained the school football team.
As a teenager he played for Beverley and represented Western Australia at national youth championships. He made his WAFL league debut with Perth in 2010 and was selected by Greater Western Sydney in 2010. Ugle made his AFL debut in July 2012 against Fremantle, the team he had supported as a child. After two seasons and three AFL games, he was delisted in September 2013. He then returned to WAFL with Perth, before moving to Peel Thunder for the 2015 season.
Ugle became Peel Thunder’s captain in 2016 and led the club to back-to-back WAFL premierships in 2016 and 2017. In 2019 he stepped down as captain to take on a mentoring role within the leadership group. He also played for the Indigenous All-Stars in 2013. He is related to AFL players Troy Ugle (great-uncle) and Kirk Ugle (cousin).
In 2021 he played for Mines Rovers, continuing his long career in Western Australian football. During his WAFL career he played 20 games for Perth and 100 games for Peel Thunder, kicking 117 goals for Peel.
