Astrid Lindgren's World is a theme park in Vimmerby, Sweden, the hometown of author Astrid Lindgren. It opened in 1981 as Sagobyn, the Fairytale Village. The park is built to a one‑third scale and started with Katthult, the Emil i Lönneberga house; more settings were added later, all in the same scale. The park covers about 180,000 square metres. Visitors can walk through environments from Lindgren's books and meet characters like Pippi Longstocking, Emil, Karlsson-on-the-Roof and others. In the summer (May to August) there are daily stage shows and improvised performances around the park, with music, singing and dancing. You can meet Pippi at Villa Villekulla. The site also has places to stay, picnic areas, a coffeehouse, and restaurants.
