Kagiso Mmusi, born 25 October 1965, is a Botswana politician and businessman. He is the Minister of Defence and Security, a position he has held since 2022. Before that, he served as the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security from 2019 to 2022. He is also the Member of Parliament for Gabane-Mmankgodi, a role he has held since 2019.

Mmusi is the son of Peter Mmusi, who was Vice President of Botswana from 1983 to 1992. He studied management development at the University of Cape Town Business School and founded Pula Holdings, a holding company.

Although he was asked to stand for Parliament after his father’s death in 1994, he chose to focus on business. In 2008 he joined the Botswana Democratic Party finance committee and was named deputy treasurer.

In the 2019 general election, Mmusi won the Gabane-Mmankgodi seat with 12,204 votes out of 19,209. After the election, he became the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security in President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s administration.

In February 2022, Mmusi urged police to act with less restraint against criminals at a police conference. Shortly after, ten robbery suspects were killed by state security. He clarified in March 2022 that his message was about vigilance, not aggression. In 2022 the Ministry of Justice was created as a separate ministry, and Mmusi became the Minister of Defence and Security in the new structure.
