Islets is a 2022 single-player action metroidvania developed by Kyle Thompson and published by Armor Games Studios for Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. In the game, you play as Iko, a mouse exploring floating islands in the sky. You can dodge, roll, swing a sword, and fire arrows. Collecting tokens from platforming and combat challenges grants random permanent upgrades, such as more health or faster arrows. When you find an island’s magnet, it joins the main map, unlocking access to new areas. Thompson, based in Portland, Oregon, previously created Sheepo and was inspired by other indie metroidvanias and games like Knytt Stories. Islets was announced on July 11, 2021 after a deal with Armor Games and released on August 24, 2022. The game received generally favorable reviews according to Metacritic.
