Icabad Crane
Icabad Crane is an American Thoroughbred racehorse born on April 9, 2005, in New York. He was sired by Jump Start out of Adorahy, bred by Gallagher's Stud, and owned by Earle I. Mack. Trained by H. Graham Motion, Icabad Crane was bought as a two-year-old for $110,000 at the Ocala Breeders Sale. Over his racing career he ran 33 times, winning 7 races and earning about $585,000.
Notable moments:
- 2008: Won the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico; finished third in the Preakness Stakes after a late rally was blocked on the rail.
- 2010: Won the Kings Point Handicap at Aqueduct; second in the West Point Stakes (turf), Evan Shipman Handicap, Empire Classic, and Tinchen’s Prince Stakes; won the Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct on December 31.
- 2011: Won the G'day Mate Stakes at Aqueduct; third in the Schaefer Handicap at Pimlico; sixth in the Suburban Handicap; won the Evan Shipman Handicap at Saratoga; second in the Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct.
Retirement and new career:
Icabad Crane was retired from racing at age eight by trainer Graham Motion and his wife Anita. He then began a second career in eventing with Phillip Dutton. In 2014, Icabad Crane and Dutton won the Thoroughbred Makeover title as America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred in eventing.
