Malcolm Moore (American football)
Malcolm Grady Moore (born June 24, 1961) is a former American football player who was a tight end and wide receiver. He played college football at USC, where a famous late 1981 catch helped USC beat Oklahoma 28–24. He also played for the Los Angeles Express in the USFL in 1984, catching 37 passes for 598 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Moore moved to the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys in 1985 (selected in the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft) but did not play for them. He signed with the San Diego Chargers in 1986 as a tight end, but a knee injury put him on injured reserve. In 1987, during the players’ strike, he joined the Los Angeles Rams as a replacement player and appeared in 3 games. His NFL career totals are 3 games, 6 receptions, 107 yards, and 1 touchdown.
After football, Moore worked as a counselor at Camp Kilpatrick, a juvenile detention center, and helped coach the Kilpatrick Mustangs. The 2006 film Gridiron Gang portrays his story, with Xzibit playing him. His brother Manfred Moore also played in the NFL. He returned to USC in 1991 to finish a degree in public administration. His nephew Solomon Byrd plays for the Houston Texans. He is married to Diane Wilson Moore.
