Nacona
Nacona, also called Nakona (Greek Νακώνη), was a small ancient Greek town in Sicily. It is known from Stephanus of Byzantium, who cites Philistus. The likely site is at Monte Navone. The name is confirmed by coins: early coins read “NAKONAION” and later ones read “ΝΑΚΩΝΑΙΩΝ.” A later coin shows that Campanians occupied the town, probably at the same time as nearby Aetna (Etna) and Entella. The town lay on an east–west axis and had a recognizable street. The necropolis contained Corinthian or Attic vases and locally made pottery of Licodia type. Coordinates: 37°21′25″N 14°17′24″E.
