HNLMS Van Amstel (F831) is a Karel Doorman-class frigate of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Built by Koninklijke Schelde Groep in Vlissingen, the ship is named after Dutch captain Jan van Amstel. It was launched in 1990, commissioned in 1993, and remains in active service.

- 2005: Helped with Hurricane Katrina relief in southern Mississippi
- 2012: Intercepted 11 Somali pirates; freed 17 hostages (Iranian fishermen) after their boat was found near Somalia
- 2016: Joined Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2); rescued migrants in the Mediterranean
- 2017: Seized about 700 kg of cocaine in two drug-busts off Curaçao/Colombia
- 2018: Participated in Exercise Dynamic Mongoose
- 2022: Took part in Exercise Mjølner; drill with USS Gerald R. Ford
- 2025: Participated in Exercise Polaris; served as temporary guard ship in the Dutch Caribbean
- Nov 2025: Became flagship of Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) and led anti-submarine exercises (Playbook Merlin 2025), patrolling Svalbard–Norway waters with other allied ships
