Highlands Historic District (Moose, Wyoming)
Highlands Historic District is a small group of rustic buildings inside Grand Teton National Park, near Moose, Wyoming. It began as a 1914 homestead owned by Harry and Elizabeth Sensenbach, who in the 1920s started catering to motorists visiting by car.
In 1946 the property was bought by Charles Byron, Jeanne Jenkins, and Gloria Jenkins Wardell, who added cabins around a central lodge in a U-shaped layout. The log construction fits the park’s rustic style. It was designed for stays of moderate length with simple, comfortable amenities, not a typical auto camp or a dude ranch.
It was the last private lodging camp built in the park before Mission 66 brought concessioner-operated facilities to public lands. The National Park Service purchased the property in 1972 to house seasonal employees, enabling the demolition of much of the nearby Mages Ranch–Elbo Ranch property. Highlands Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 19, 1998.
