USS Felicia (SP-642)
Felicia (SP-642) was a steam yacht used by the U.S. Navy as a patrol vessel during World War I. Built in 1898 by J. N. Robins Company in Brooklyn, New York, she was originally named Felicia. The Navy bought her in June 1917 and she was commissioned on June 29, 1917.
Felicia patrolled the New England coast from Newport, Rhode Island, as part of the 2nd Naval District, protecting ships from German submarines. In August 1918 she collided with a submarine in heavy fog off Montauk Point and was repaired. After the war she was decommissioned on August 25, 1919 in Brooklyn, stricken in September 1919, and sold on March 25, 1920.
Specifications: type steam yacht; tonnage 213 gross register tons, 146 net; length 179 ft; beam 20.1 ft; draft 7 ft 6 in; depth 10.9 ft. Propulsion: one quadruple-expansion engine driving one screw; speed about 14 knots. Complement: 49 officers and enlisted. Armament: three 3-pounder guns. Sail plan: schooner rig.
