Guillermo Escalada

Guillermo Escalada Píriz (24 April 1936 – 21 June 2023) was a Uruguayan footballer who played as a forward. He spent most of his club career with Nacional from 1954 to 1963, winning league titles in 1956, 1957 and 1958. He later played for Gimnasia de La Plata in Argentina (1964–1966) and Montevideo Wanderers (1966–1967). For Nacional he made 289 appearances and scored 116 goals; for Gimnasia he had 26 appearances and 3 goals.

International career: Escalada earned 30 caps for Uruguay and scored 11 goals between 1955 and 1962. He played in four Copa America tournaments (1955, 1956, 1959 in Argentina, and 1959 in Ecuador) and helped Uruguay win the competition in 1956 and 1959. He was part of Uruguay’s squad for the 1962 FIFA World Cup but did not play in the tournament.

Death: He passed away on 21 June 2023 at the age of 87.
