Steve Gelbs (born February 1, 1987) is an American sportscaster who covers the New York Mets and New York Jets for SNY. He was born in Rego Park, Queens, and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, the son of Scott H. and Robin A. Gelbs. He has two younger brothers, Jared and Adam, and was raised in Reform Judaism. His father’s work as a physical therapist for the New York Rangers helped fuel Gelbs’ early love for hockey and sports.

Gelbs attended Greenwich High School and went on to earn a BA from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He began his career at MSG Varsity, then moved to MSG, where he hosted MSG 150 for Knicks and Rangers telecasts. He joined SportsNet New York in 2013, first covering a Brooklyn Cyclones game. In 2014, he filled in for Kevin Burkhardt for 50 Mets games and became the Mets’ lead studio host in 2015 after Burkhardt left for Fox Sports.

He has won the 2009 Syracuse Press Club award for Best Radio Sports Feature and has been nominated for four New York Emmys, including Sports Anchor of the Year in 2012. In 2019, Gelbs, along with Keith Hernandez, Gary Cohen, and Ron Darling, won the Sterling Award for the best broadcasting booth in MLB. He also voiced himself in a 2025 episode of The Simpsons called “Abe League of Their Moe.”

Gelbs married Julie Straus Gelbs on November 21, 2015, after proposing in 2014. They have two children, born in 2019 and 2021.
