José Carlos Brunoro
José Carlos Brunoro, born June 11, 1950, in Santo André, is a Brazilian sports executive known as Brunoro. He was the CEO of Palmeiras, one of Brazil’s biggest clubs, and the co‑founder of Grêmio Osasco Audax Esporte Clube (Audax). With more than 40 years in professional sports, he has worked as an athlete, trainer, coach, executive and sports marketing consultant. He has also served as a member of Brazil’s national sports council (CNE) appointed by the Ministry of Sports.
Brunoro has led in several sports, including volleyball, soccer, Formula One and basketball. In soccer, he was Palmeiras’ executive from 1992 to 1996 and helped sign future stars Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos. On June 12, 1993, Palmeiras won the São Paulo championship by beating Corinthians 4–0, a major title for a club that hadn’t won since 1976.
He became Palmeiras’ CEO again in January 2013, during a period when the club discussed signing Argentine star Juan Román Riquelme and even tried to hire coach Marcelo Bielsa (who declined). He left Palmeiras in December 2014.
In 2003 Brunoro co‑founded Audax with Abilio Diniz and Fernando Solleiro and led the project until 2013, when he moved to Palmeiras as CEO. Audax organized large tryouts, screening about 70,000 players. In 2016 Audax reached the São Paulo Championship final, defeating São Paulo and Corinthians in the knockout rounds.
Brunoro has a volleyball background as a player, trainer and coach, and was part of the Brazil national team staff that won silver at the 1984 Olympics. From 1996 to 2002, he worked in Formula One, managing Pedro Paulo Diniz with teams Ligier, Arrows and Sauber. He co‑authored Soccer 100% Professional (1997) and founded Brunoro Sports Business (BSB) in 1997, a consulting firm that helped organize the X‑Games in Foz do Iguaçu. In 2009 he became technical director of Brazil’s basketball federation, and in 2011 helped the men’s team qualify for the Olympics after 16 years. In May 2016 he was named consulting general manager of the San Francisco Deltas, responsible for building the team’s philosophy and staff.
