Gerry Mulligan Quartet Volume 2
Gerry Mulligan Quartet Volume 2 is a 1953 jazz album by saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and his quartet. The music was recorded in 1953, with sessions at Radio Recorders in Los Angeles in April and a later date at the Haig in Hollywood in May. It was originally issued as a 10-inch LP on the Pacific Jazz label, and a 2001 CD reissue added alternate takes, 12-inch masters, and five live tracks. The release is part of the West Coast “cool jazz” style, known for intricate improvisations and Mulligan’s lyrical baritone sax, complemented by Chet Baker’s melodic playing. Most compositions are by Mulligan.
