Nyhamna Gas Plant
Nyhamna Gas Plant is a major natural gas processing facility on the island of Gossa in Aukra Municipality, Møre og Romsdal, Norway. It processes gas from the Ormen Lange field, located about 105 km (65 miles) west of the plant, and sends it to the United Kingdom.
Construction started in 2004–2005 and was completed in September 2007. The plant was built for the Ormen Lange project by Norsk Hydro with partners including Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil and Petoro. It is owned by Norske Shell, and Shell has been the operator since December 2007. When built, the project was Norway’s largest construction venture.
Gas from Nyhamna travels via the Langeled pipeline to the Easington terminal in Yorkshire, about 1,200 km (745 miles) away. The pipeline runs from Nyhamna to the Sleipner field and then to Easington, with pipe diameters of 42 inches on the Nyhamna–Sleipner section and 44 inches from Sleipner to Easington. The southern section began operation around October 2006.
Ormen Lange, the gas field supplying Nyhamna, was discovered in 1997 and is Norway’s second-largest gas field. It is owned by a group of partners including Norsk Hydro, Norske Shell, Petoro, Statoil, Dansk Olie og Naturgas, and ExxonMobil.
