NGC 3748 is a lenticular galaxy with a bar, located in the Leo constellation about 440 million light-years from Earth. It has a recessed core (RET) and is described as moderately bright and fairly small, about 0.4 by 0.3 arcminutes with a small bright center, and an apparent magnitude of around 14.8.

It was discovered by Ralph Copeland on April 5, 1874, and later observed by Hermann Kobold, Lawrence Parsons, and John Louis Emil Dreyer. NGC 3748 is part of the Copeland Septet, a small group that also includes NGC 3745, 3746, 3750, 3751, 3753 and 3754. This group is known as Arp 320 and, in the Hickson catalog, as Hickson 57 (NGC 3748 is the object labeled HCG 57E). The galaxy’s redshift is about 0.0294, corresponding to a radial velocity of roughly 8,800 km/s.
