Dubai–Sharjah–Ajman metropolitan area
Dubai–Sharjah–Ajman (DSA) is the United Arab Emirates’ largest and most densely populated metropolitan area. It sits along the central coast and brings together the cities of Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman as one economic region governed by three emirates. The area covers about 1,994 square kilometers and is home to roughly 6.2 million people, with a high population density and lots of cross-emirate commuting. The economy is strong, with a regional GDP around $203 billion (2023) and a per-capita income of about $33,800. The DSA relies on shared infrastructure and cross-emirate travel, making it the UAE’s main urban corridor. It connects to a broader urban belt that reaches parts of Umm Al Quwain and western Ras Al Khaimah, though those areas aren’t usually counted in the core DSA.
