Der Neue Heimatfilm is an international five-day film festival in Freistadt, Austria. It happens every year at the end of August and began in 1988 to celebrate the "new Heimatfilm" genre. Each year around 60 feature films, short films, and documentaries from all over the world are shown; in 2017, 80 films were shown to about 3,500 visitors.

The festival often focuses on identity and the idea of home, especially stories about migration, but it also features films about life and changes in rural areas. The founder and director is Wolfgang Steininger, who also started the Linz Crossing Europe Film Festival in 2004.

Since 1998 a jury gives the Freistadt Film Prize of 2,500 euros for the best fiction film. Since 2007 a Freistadt Documentary Film Prize of 1,500 euros is awarded for the best documentary. The Freistadt Honorary Prize is given for special contributions to the genre. The program also includes concerts and exhibitions.
