San Silvestre Vallecana is a famous 10-kilometre road race in Madrid, held every year on December 31. Since 1964 it has two editions: the Popular race for amateurs and a professional Elite race. In 2012 the event reached a peak of about 40,000 participants.

It is modeled on Brazil’s Saint Silvester Road Race and is one of Madrid’s main running events along with the Madrid Marathon. The Popular race is family-friendly, with runners dressing in costumes and enjoying a festive atmosphere. The route starts on Concha Espina Street and finishes at Vallecas Stadium, passing many of Madrid’s iconic sights. The Elite race takes place later that same evening.

Course records: Men 26:32 (set in 2024 by Berihu Aregawi and Jacob Kiplimo in a tie). Women 29:54 (set by Brigid Kosgei in 2018).

Recent participation figures show about 1,052 finishers in 2021; the 2020 edition was Elite-only; 1,239 finishers in 2019; 1,105 in 2018. The event is sponsored by Nationale Nederlanden.
