The 2016–17 Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team represented the University of Kansas during the 2016–17 season. They played in the Big 12, at home in Allen Fieldhouse, and were led by 14th-year head coach Bill Self. The Jayhawks finished 31–5 overall and 16–2 in the Big 12, earning their 13th straight regular-season conference title (tying UCLA’s record for consecutive titles). They lost to TCU in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.

Kansas received a No. 1 seed in the Midwest region of the NCAA tournament, extending their streak of 28 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances—the longest active streak at the time. In the NCAA tournament, they defeated UC Davis and Michigan State to reach the Sweet Sixteen, then beat Purdue to advance to the Elite Eight, where they fell to Oregon. The Jayhawks opened the season with a long home-winning streak at Allen Fieldhouse (40 straight wins to start the season, reaching 51 before ending with a 92–89 loss to Iowa State on February 5, 2017—the nation’s longest active home streak at that time). Note: the following season’s NCAA appearance was later vacated, affecting the official streak count.
