Joseph Andrew Paterson, born June 25, 1960 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey left winger. He was 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighed 205 pounds, and shot left. Paterson played nine seasons in the NHL from 1980 to 1989 for the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers. He was drafted 87th overall in 1979 by Detroit. After his playing career, he coached in the Ontario Hockey League (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) and the American Hockey League (Louisville Panthers, Adirondack Phantoms). He later worked as a pro scout for the Kings from 2013 to 2015.
