Born Wild (film)
Born Wild is a 2001 Hong Kong action drama directed by Patrick Leung. It stars Louis Koo as Tan and Daniel Wu as Tide Ho, twin brothers with very different personalities. On Tide’s 26th birthday, he learns that Tan has died and returns home to investigate. He meets Tan’s lover Sandy (Jo Kuk) and his best friend Mann (Patrick Tam) and discovers that Tan was framed in a boxing match and killed. Tide then decides to confront the killer, trains to fight him, and aims to avenge his brother’s death, while also growing closer to Sandy.
The film features supporting performances by Jo Kuk and Patrick Tam. It runs 109 minutes, is in Cantonese, and was released in Hong Kong on May 31, 2001. It grossed HK$1,294,585 at the box office.
Critical reception was mixed. Video Watchdog’s John Charles gave it 4/10, criticizing the stylized fight sequences, unresolved plot threads, and a weak climax. Love HK Film praised some performances but called the movie heavy with existential themes and said the payoff is weak, though parts of it are worth watching.
