Date Records was a sub-label of Columbia Records with two periods of activity. The first, in 1958, was a short‑lived rockabilly label that released Billy "Crash" Craddock. The more lasting version relaunched in February 1966 under Tom Noonan to promote Columbia’s acquired and independently produced recordings, rather than Columbia’s own productions. Its biggest successes were Peaches & Herb and the Zombies. The label ended in 1970, except for one final single in early 1972 by the Pooh—“I’ll Close the Door Behind Me,” an English version of “Tanta Voglia Di Lei.” Afterward, Date artists moved to Columbia or Epic, with most Date material reissued on Epic. Sony Music Entertainment now owns the Date catalog, managed by Legacy Recordings.
