Lady Like
Lady Like is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress. It was released on March 27, 2020, by Warner Music Nashville. The album mixes country and pop and is inspired by Andress’s real-life experiences. She wrote and co-produced every track, working with producers Zach Abend, Sam Ellis, AJ Pruis and Jordan Schmidt. The songs focus on relationships, family and feminism, and were recorded in Nashville studios.
The lead single, More Hearts Than Mine, came out in 2019 and became Andress’s breakthrough. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Hot 100 and earned double platinum certifications in the US and Canada. The album’s other singles are The Stranger (released mid-2020) and Lady Like (released October 2020). Lady Like charted on country charts and the single Lady Like was certified gold in the US and Canada.
In October 2020, a deluxe edition of Lady Like was released with extra tracks and a rearranged track listing that follows the timeline of Andress’s life as she wrote the songs.
Critics praised the album for its blend of country and pop and for Andress’s honest lyrics. It appeared on year-end lists and earned two Grammy nominations: Best Country Album for Lady Like and Best Country Song for More Hearts Than Mine. The album reached No. 9 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and it also charted in the UK, Scotland, Canada and on the Billboard 200.
Background: Before her music career took off, Andress appeared on The Sing-Off with the groups Pitch Slapped and Delilah while studying at Berklee College of Music. After graduating in 2013, she moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting and later signed with Warner Music Nashville. She released the Rosebank Acoustic Sessions EP in 2019, setting the stage for Lady Like.
