Christiane Torloni
Christiane Maria dos Santos Torloni, known as Christiane Torloni, is a Brazilian actress born on 18 February 1957 in São Paulo. She studied theater at IBAM and decided to become an actress as a child. She began her professional career at 18 on TV Globo in Caso Especial. Her first soap, Duas Vidas, was in 1976, and she soon starred in Gina (1978). She has since acted in many telenovelas and is one of Brazil’s most famous TV actresses.
Her notable roles include Jô Penteado in A Gata Comeu (1985), Fernanda Arruda Campos in Selva de Pedra (1986), Diná in A Viagem (1994), and the twins Fernanda and Vivi in Cara & Corras (1995). In 2011, she played the memorable villain Tereza Cristina in Fina Estampa, a performance that is widely remembered.
Christiane Torloni has won numerous awards. She received the APCA Award for Best Actress on Television for Um Anjo Caiu do Céu (2002). She has also won two Prêmios Qualidade Brasil and a Shell Award, and she has been nominated for Troféu Imprensa and Grande Otelo.
She is about 1.70 meters tall. She has been married to Dennis Carvalho (1977–1980) and to Eduardo Mascarenhas (1981–1986). She has two children, one of whom died.
Beyond acting, Torloni is active in social and environmental causes. She has supported efforts to protect the Amazon and to end violence against women, and she has spoken out against certain government policies. She helped popularize the phrase “Hoje é dia de rock, bebê!” at Rock in Rio in 2011, a line that became famous and even appeared on a t-shirt in 2013. Ttorloni is of Spanish, Italian, and Indigenous descent and remains a respected figure in Brazilian television.
