Dennis Eagan
Dennis Eagan (Dennis Michael Royal Eagan) was a British field hockey player and Army officer. He was born on 13 August 1926 in Quetta, British India, and studied at Gresham’s School.
Eagan played as a half-back and represented Great Britain at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where the team won bronze and he played in all three matches. At club level he played for the Army and Aldershot Services, and at county level for Hampshire, earning eight caps for Great Britain in total.
In the Royal Engineers, Eagan had a distinguished career, retiring as a Colonel. After he finished playing, he became an important hockey administrator, serving as secretary of the Hockey Association and the European Hockey Association, and later as treasurer and then vice-president of the British Olympic Association.
He passed away on 1 July 2012 at the age of 85.
