Richard Cuffari (March 2, 1925 – 1978) was an American illustrator known for his work in children's books and science fiction. He illustrated more than 200 books, often focusing on historical and nonfiction topics. Born in Brooklyn to immigrant parents, he attended James Madison High School and won awards for his art there. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he studied at the Pratt Institute, graduating in 1949. He married Phyllis Klie in 1950 and began a freelance illustration career in 1966. He received the New York Society of Children's Illustrators' Citation of Merit in 1969 and 1970, and a Christopher Award in 1973.
