Autoimmune is an album by Meat Beat Manifesto, released on April 8, 2008. It was recorded at Room 5 and blends electronica, trip hop, dubstep, hip hop, breakbeat, and IDM. The music moves faster than some earlier MBM work and nods to the band’s late-1980s industrial sound. Some people call it Dangers’ take on dubstep, though he says MBM has always used those ideas.

The album was originally announced as a 20-track double-CD, but it was shortened to a single disc with different track listings for the US and Europe. The UK version is shorter and includes two tracks not on the US release, and several tracks are mixed differently. The UK adds “House of Unique Stink” and “(Live) And Direct (Live).” Some songs, like “Less” and “Spanish Vocoder,” have different lengths in the UK version. The extra material from the canceled double-disc later appeared on a tour-only EP, and those tracks were originally meant for the double-disc. The cover continues the band’s checkerboard/grid design.

This is the first Meat Beat Manifesto album with Jack Dangers on vocals since 1998’s Actual Sounds + Voices; he sings on “Solid Waste.” All tracks are credited to Jack Dangers. The album art keeps the familiar checkerboard motif seen on earlier releases. The track “Bush of Lies” was released as a free download on the band’s website.
