Timeline of airliner bombing attacks

Commercial passenger and cargo airliners have been targets of bombs and arson since the early days of air travel. Early attacks were often suicide plots or insurance scams; from the late 20th century, assassination and political or religious terrorism became the main motives for bombing large jets. A compiled list covers 86 airliner bombing cases, 53 of which were fatal. This is a chronological overview of airliner bombing attacks. Each listed incident has its own article. Only explosions caused by bombs are included; explosions not caused by bombs are excluded. Bombings of small light aircraft or air taxis, and failed bombing attempts, are usually not included. Airliners used by the military may be listed, but bombings of military transport aircraft are not. For airliners brought down by gunfire or missiles rather than bombs, see the List of airliner shootdown incidents.
