Deng Qilin
Deng Qilin (Chinese: 邓崎琳; born November 1951) is a Chinese industrial engineer, manufacturing executive, and politician from Hunan. He studied at Wuhan University of Science and Technology and joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1978. He built his career at Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation (WISCO), serving as general manager from 1995 to 2013 and then as chairman from 2013 to 2015. He was also a delegate to the National People’s Congress (the 11th and 12th sessions).
In August 2015, Deng was investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection for serious violations of party rules and laws, and he was expelled from the Communist Party in January 2016. The investigation found that he engaged in bribery, abused his power to help his family’s business, took part in illicit activities including “power-for-sex” transactions, and used company housing for personal use.
On May 31, 2017, Deng Qilin was sentenced by a Foshan court to 15 years in prison and fined 5 million yuan for taking bribes totaling about 55.39 million yuan.
