The 1941 New York Yankees season was the team’s 39th. Managed by Joe McCarthy, they played at Yankee Stadium in New York City and finished with a 101–53 record, winning their 12th American League pennant and finishing 17 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox. They defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in five games to win the World Series.

The season is best remembered for center fielder Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak, a national sensation. During the streak he hit .408 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs. After the streak ended, he started another 16-game hitting streak and finished by hitting safely in 72 of 73 games. DiMaggio, Tommy Henrich, and Charlie Keller formed the only outfield trio in major league history to each hit 30 homers in a season. A big-band song, “Joltin’ Joe DiMaggio,” became a hit the following year.

The 1941 season was also the last before the United States entered World War II.
