Ashok Kumar (born 9 November 1963) is a retired Indian Police Service officer from the 1989 batch, Uttarakhand cadre. He served as the 11th Director General of Uttarakhand Police and was appointed vice-chancellor of the Sports University of Haryana from 28 February 2024 to 1 March 2027.

He was born in Panipat, Haryana, and studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, where he earned a BTech in Mechanical Engineering and an MTech in Thermal Engineering. He is married to Dr. Alaknanda Ashok and they have three children (two daughters and one son).

Kumar's career began in Uttar Pradesh, with postings in Prayagraj and Aligarh. He later held senior roles in several districts in UP and Uttarakhand. Notable achievements include leading a counter-terrorism operation in Nainital in 1994, managing law and order during the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Haridwar in 2004, and helping modernize police infrastructure after Uttarakhand was formed. As director of Vigilance, he launched the Fight Against Corruption program, which led to dozens of public servants being jailed. As Director General of Law & Order, he emphasized victim-centric and humane policing, which aided efforts during the COVID-19 waves.

Kumar also served with the Border Security Force and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo as head of the Crime Investigation Unit, for which he received the UN Medal and Bar in 2001. He is an author of several books, including Human in Khaki (co-authored with Lokesh Ohri), and other works on internal security and civil services. He is a fateside sports enthusiast, particularly badminton and lawn tennis, and has organized national tennis events and the Dehradun Marathon. His daughter Kuhoo is an Indian badminton player who has represented India.
