Robert A. McGowan (May 22, 1901 – June 20, 1955) was an American film director and screenwriter. He was born in Denver, Colorado, and is best known for his work on the Our Gang short subjects. He served as a junior director from 1926 to 1930 and later co-wrote scripts for MGM’s Our Gang shorts from 1938 to 1944. He was named after his uncle, Robert F. McGowan, the senior Our Gang director, and often used the credit Anthony Mack. He appears on screen in the 1932 short Free Wheeling when a boxing glove attached to a toy taxi hits him. He married Madeline Rosselle and had two children. His daughter Mickie McGowan (1938–2022) became a voice actor and ADR director. His personal memorabilia was destroyed. His career ended in the late 1940s during the anti-Communist blacklist era because he was associated with blacklisted screenwriters. He died in Los Angeles, California on June 20, 1955, at age 54.
