The Battlefield
The Battlefield is a Hong Kong historical drama that aired in 1985. Loosely based on the Chu–Han Contention—the period between the fall of the Qin dynasty and the founding of the Han dynasty—the series follows the power struggle for China.
It centers on two heroes, Lau Bong and Hung Yu. They start as close friends but soon become bitter rivals as they vie for control of the country. Hon Sun and Cheung Leung are involved in the shifting loyalties: Hon Sun sides with Hung Yu for a time, while Cheung Leung supports Lau Bong. Later, Hon Sun leaves Hung Yu and teams up with Cheung Leung to help Lau Bong.
A Qin spy, Yuk Dip-yee, is sent to investigate the Hung family. She falls in love with Hung Yu and cannot betray him, eventually dying at the hands of Hung Yu’s uncle Hung Leung.
A beauty named Consort Yu enters the story, creating a love rivalry between Hung Yu and Lau Bong. Hung Yu wins Consort Yu’s heart. In response, Lau Bong marries Lui Chi, hoping to use her father to counter Hung Yu, which sparks a larger war between the two men.
In 2004, the story was revisited in a sequel/remake called The Conqueror’s Story, featuring a new cast. Adam Cheng played Lau Bong in this newer version.
