The election was held on 3 May 1984 to elect 14 of the 43 seats on Welwyn Hatfield District Council. Turnout was 32,912 voters (47.9%).

The Labour Party kept 24 seats, the Conservatives remained on 19 seats, and the Alliance stayed at 0 seats. No seats changed hands in this election.

Vote results:

- Conservative: 12,579 votes (38.2%)
- Alliance: 6,230 votes (18.9%)
