Arístides Villanueva Chenaut (August 11, 1825 – August 7, 1900) was an Argentine politician and merchant who served as governor of Mendoza Province from November 20, 1870, to October 11, 1873. He was born in Mendoza to José María Villanueva Pelliza and Juana Chenaut Moyano and had a sister named Carolina. In 1844 he married Vicenta Doncel in San Juan, and they had two children, Guillermo and Vicenta. Villanueva held several political roles at both provincial and national levels, including War and Navy National Minister and President of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies. He followed his cousin Nicolás Villanueva as Mendoza’s governor, during a period known as “family governments.” He died in Río Cuarto, Córdoba. He was a member of the Autonomist Party. A main avenue in Mendoza is named after him, and an old school downtown bears his name for his contributions to education.
