Mitre Sports International
Mitre Sports International Ltd., or Mitre, is an English sports equipment maker based in Wakefield. Founded in 1817 in Huddersfield, it is one of the oldest brands in the business and is now part of the Pentland Group. Mitre mainly makes football gear—balls, uniforms and clothing—but also supplies rugby, basketball and netball balls and related accessories. Its Delta football has been used in several UK leagues, and the company provides balls and kits to many competitions around the world, with models such as Delta Hyperseam and ProMax Hyperseam. Key moments in its history include Denis Law becoming the first Mitre spokesman in 1964, serving as official ball supplier to the FA for many years, and supplying the Premier League with synthetic balls from 1992. Mitre has expanded internationally, including deals in Argentina and Chile, and it has sponsored players like George Weah and Shane Warne. In recent years, Mitre reintroduced the Delta ball for the English Football League in 2017 and launched Hyperseam technology and personalized footballs.
