Ampe (game)
Ampe is a simple, high-energy game from Ghana that is also played in neighboring countries. It needs no equipment and can be played by two or more players. One player is the leader. The players jump at the same time, clap, and thrust one foot forward. If both point the same foot forward, the leader scores a point. If they point different feet, the other player becomes "it" and plays against the remaining players. If players are in a circle, the leader moves inside to challenge them one by one; if they are in a line, the leader moves along the line. With only two players, they keep score until someone reaches a set number of points to win. Ampe has spread beyond Ghana and has been used in training and tournaments across Africa.
