The 72nd Delaware General Assembly was Delaware’s state legislature from January 6, 1863 to January 3, 1865. It had two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Elections were held on the first Tuesday after November 1, and terms began on the first Tuesday in January. The Assembly met in Dover, starting January 6, 1863, during the first year of Governor William Cannon’s administration. Each county (three counties) sent three senators and seven representatives, regardless of population. Both chambers were controlled by Democrats. Senators served four-year terms, with some elected every two years; representatives served two-year terms.
