Dana (IV) is Denmark’s main ocean research vessel. Built in Aarhus, Denmark, it entered service in 1981, replacing Dana (III). Owned by the Danish Technical University and registered in Hirtshals, it is a deep-sea stern trawler equipped for fisheries and hydrographic research. The ship is about 78 meters long, roughly 15 meters wide, and can reach speeds up to 15.5 knots. It can sail about 14,000 nautical miles and stay at sea for around 50 days, with a crew of 12–18 and space for researchers. Dana (IV) operates mainly in the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and around Greenland. It was originally built for the Danish Fisheries and Marine Research and moved to the National Institute for Aquatic Resources under the Danish Technical University in 2007. Anew vessel, Dana (V), is planned to replace it in 2027, to be built in Spain by Construcciones Navales P. Freire.
